Harrodsburg, Kentucky is full of amazing history. Not only is this quiet, little town the first permanent settlement west of the Allegheny Mountains; but Mercer County is also home to one of the few still functioning Shaker villages. Not only that, but we are in very close proximity to other such attractions as the Bourbon Trail and Keeneland. Old Fort Harrod State Park – Harrodsburg, KY

A full-scale replica of the fort, built by James Harrod in 1774, is the central attraction of the park. Cabins and blockhouses are furnished with handmade utensils, furniture, tools and implements used by the pioneers. Several of the cabins and work structures feature a period-dressed interpreter telling tales, providing oral history and answering questions regarding the fort. There is also a Native American settlement just beyond the fort wall. The park also features the Mansion Museum, George Rogers Clark Federal Monument, Lincoln Marriage Temple and the oldest cemetery west of the Alleghenies.

 This is the exciting and important story about the attempt by Richard Henderson and the Transylvania Company to steal the land claims of James Harrod and his company; by claiming to have purchased the same land from the Cherokee Nation. Virginia eventually voided the purchase, restoring Harrod and the other settlers’ claims; but the path to victory was not easy. Come see the “Battle” that determined the fate of Kentucky!

Welcome to the World’s Longest Yard Sale, also known as the 127 Corridor Sale.  At its current length of 690 miles, the 127 Yard Sale begins 5 miles north of Addison, Michigan, and ends at Gadsden, Georgia. The sale always officially starts on the first Thursday in August, and runs through the following Sunday. The individuals involved every year band together as communities and groups to welcome the onslaught of visitors from the north, south, east and west. Come be a part of this ever-growing tradition!
